CUBS POUND RHEM AND BELT CARDS AGAIN, 11 TO 8 North Siders Keep Hammering St. Louis Pitching At Wrigley Field —

— Redbirds Play Ragged Ball Behind Hurlers — Chicago Takes Third Straight

The Cubs kept right on socking Saturday afternoon at Wrigley Field and hammered Flint Rhem out of the box before finishing off the Cardinals, 11 to 8, for their third straight victory over Rogers Hornsby’s club.

The North Siders have now hung 27 runs on the Cardinals in three straight ball games and have battered St. Louis pitching from one end of the series to the other.

Rhem took his first defeat of the season after Chicago climbed all over him early and never let the Cardinal right-hander get properly settled.

The loss dropped Rhem to 3 victories against 1 defeat.

Chicago climbed to 9 victories, 7 defeats, and 1 tie while the Cardinals slipped below even standing at 8 victories against 9 defeats.

Again the Cardinals hit enough balls to stay dangerous.

Again they played too loose a brand of baseball behind their pitchers to stop Chicago once the Cubs began cutting loose.

The whole series has turned sour that way for St. Louis.

The Redbirds shove runs across the pan.

Then the pitching caves and the gloves start booting chances behind it.

Saturday was no different.

The Cubs came out swinging early against Rhem and kept punching base knocks through the infield and into the alleys while St. Louis pitchers worked in and out of hot water nearly all afternoon.

Chicago kept traffic crowding the sacks inning after inning and never allowed the Cardinals much breathing room once the Cubs grabbed command.

The Cardinals answered with hitting of their own and managed to shove 8 runs across the plate, but every St. Louis rally was answered by another Chicago counter-punch.

By the middle innings the affair had turned into another rough afternoon for the Cardinal mound staff while the Cubs kept the crowd roaring with fresh rallies.

Rhem absorbed the worst of the punishment before giving way as Chicago kept tearing into Cardinal pitching.

The Cubs battered out another heavy attack while St. Louis struggled to choke off the big innings.

The Cardinals kept scrapping and refused to quit entirely, but they never could square the thing once Chicago seized the upper hand.

When the last man was retired the Cubs had piled up 11 runs and walked off with another victory over the staggering Cardinals.

The Cardinals have now dropped three straight games in Chicago while surrendering 27 runs in the series.

Right now the St. Louis bats are working hard enough to win.

The pitching and fielding are dragging the whole club into the ditch.
