Baseball in St. Louis, 1879

I used to follow this traveling baseball team around in 1879, back when the game was still finding its feet and the clubs themselves often seemed half circus, half sporting enterprise. They weren’t yet the proud ball club folks in St. Louis know today, but even then there was something about the fellows that made you want to see where they’d turn up next.
